COVID-19: Hundreds of violators penalised as containment measures intensify in Manipur

Hundreds of individuals were penalised as Manipur police intensified its drive against lockdown violators as containment measures against the spread of COVID-19 in Manipur  on Monday.

 

Manipur government announced intensified containment measures for the next one week, till April 12, 2020.

 

On the advice of the state government, district magistrates of all the districts have issued orders regarding intensifying measures against the spread of the pandemic in the state on Sunday.

 

All markets including grocery shops and vegetable vendors will remain closed till April 12, 2020 to ensure total lockdown for the next one week.

 

However, medical shops, milk booths and newspapers will be exempted from the closure as per the orders.

 

The step has been taken to make the precautionary measures more stringent and in suppression of all orders issued in regard to precautionary measures taken up in connection with outbreak of COVID-19, official sources said.

 

To implement the intensified lockdown in the state where the whole state is being under curfew since March 24, police across the state conducted stringent drive against lockdown violators.

 

Reports received from headquarters of various districts stated that police have forced all shops including grocery and vegetable, which opened in the morning, to close down.In the crackdown, the police detained hundreds of violators. They were produced before the concerned magistrates and collected fines, a police source said.

 

In Senapati district, two individuals who came out on the street violating the curfew were penalised by forcing them to jump on the street.

 

Similar reports of penalising lockdown violators were reported from other places also.
