Manipur erects fencing Indo-Myanmar border in Singhat sub-division

The administration of Churachandpur district has reportedly completed erecting barbed-wire fencing to about 220 meter along Indo-Myanmar border at Pakmual village under Singhat sub-division of the district.

 

The fencing work was taken up as a part of Manipur state government’s effort to check cross border movement of people in the backdrop of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The state government of Manipur has increased vigil activities and fencing of border along the Indo-Myanmar border after confirmed cases of COVID-19 were detected in some villages of Myanmar bordering Manipur.

 

Considering the increased number of COVID-19 cases in Myanmar, the state government of Manipur has started fencing important portions of porous borders where people of  both the countries used to cross.

 

It can be mentioned here that three hill districts of Manipur---Tengnoupal, Chandel and Churachandpur share extremely porous borders with Myanmar.
