Manipur: Security forces seize brown sugar worth Rs 5.14 crore

Despite tight security vigil along the Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border in Moreh area, seizures of smuggled contraband drugs continued in the state.

 

A combined team of Manipur police and 43 Assam Rifles in the border town Moreh seized 2.574 kg of brown sugar on Friday night which will value around Rs 5.14 crore.

 

A police source said on August 31 that the contraband drug was detected during a checking of a car at a place 4.5 km away from the Moreh police station along NH-102 on Friday night around 10:30 pm. A person who was driving the car has been detained by the combined team of security forces, the source said.

 

The brown sugar was found packed in 198 soap cases, the police source added.

 

The arrested person along with the seized contraband item has been handed over to Moreh police station where a case has been registered against the alleged drug peddler.
