Nagaland observes 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas

‘For soldiers, duty is supreme’

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan today stated that soldiers sacrifice their lives for not only the present but also the future generations and for a secured future. “Soldiers don’t differentiate between life and death. For them, duty is supreme,” the Governor asserted while addressing the 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas held at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima on July 26. 

The Governor of Nagaland observed the occasion along with Kargil War Veterans, Veer Nari/Next of Kin (NOK), army officers, jawans, students, CSO leaders and staff of Raj Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor commended the gallant Indian Army soldiers who from 5th May to 26th July 1999 valiantly fought at the high altitude, snow bound areas of Kargil Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir to liberate the Indian Territory from Pakistan Army. 

‘During this intense war, many of our warriors laid down their lives and made supreme sacrifice for the defence of the country,’ Ganesan observed. 

“Warriors from our own state Nagaland were also at the forefront of the war,” the Governor mentioned and added, all “had played crucial roles and displayed exemplary courage and patriotism during the war. We also remember our brave warriors from our state who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.”

The nation will continue to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the brave hearts who gave their lives for the nation and paid tribute to the brave and fearless soldiers, who stood firm on their line of duty and are no more with us, he said. 

“Let us dedicate ourselves and our duties towards the nation and further called the soldiers on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas to seek inspiration from these brave-hearts and their families,” the Governor added. 

The Governor handed over the appreciation certificate to the Kargil War Veterans. 

 A brief history on Kargil Vijay Diwas was given by 1st Assam Rifles Commandant. Short speeches were also delivered by Kargil War veteran and Veer Nari/Next of Kin (NOK). The vote of thanks was delivered by Major General Vikas Lakhera, SM IGAR (N). 

The programme was also attended by DGP Rupin Sharma IPS, Shanavas C DC Kohima, DIG CRPF, Director Rajya Sainik Board and NCC officials.
