NEIDA pig health camp covers 46 villages

Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) organized pig health camp in 46 villages of Phek, Kiphire and Tuensang districts from October 30 to November 20.

Altogether, 1593 pigs were vaccinated with Classical Swine fever vaccine and 2037 pigs received various treatments on deworming, skin diseases and other cases. NEIDA along with implementing partners, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) and Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) conducted the activity, which according to a press release is an important component in improving piggery management practices in rural Nagaland.

There is demand from pig farmers for more such health camps to be held on regular basis. NEIDA is currently implementing a piggery activity targeting 10,000 households in Tuensang, Phek and Kiphire districts. One of the strategies is to ensure that basic veterinary and other services are made available to farmers to enable them to scale up their pig rearing activities.

The camp was conducted with funding support from the Tata trusts and Classical swine fever vaccine from Department of AH and Veterinary Services, Government of Nagaland.
