Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): In a bid to curb the increasing consumption of tobacco among the students, the Nagaland Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Dimapur in collaboration with the Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) launched the Yellow Line Tobacco free campaign for tobacco free institution on March 1 along with Dr. C. Tetseo, District Nodal officer NTCP under CMO.
Addressing the event, Dr. C. Tetseo stated that the objective of the campaign was to strengthen tobacco free institutional norms and to create more awareness for students, staff and visitors.
Dr. C. Tetseo also said that Nagaland has been declared as the highest consumer of smokeless tobacco in the North-east.
DNSU, president, N. Pitovi Achumi congratulated the institutions within its jurisdiction who have been declared Tobacco free zone and encouraged other institutions to follow suit.
Meanwhile, DNSU warned those business establishments or shop falling within the Yellow Line (100 mtrs) to immediately stop selling tobacco products, and said that those found guilty will be penalized.
The programme was chaired by Khenili Kiho, Assistant Professor Sociology, JN Aier College. The prayer was said by Rev. Candid Sarreo, Pastor Tangkhul Baptist Church Diphupar. Speech on behalf of students was given by Akivili, class 10 of Unity Christian Higher Secondary School and the pledge was read by Nchumthung Lotha, President, Lotha Students’ Union Diphupar.
