Wokha, January 19 (MExN): The 10th Mega Legal Services Camp was conducted at local ground Wokha on January 19. The camp was organized by Nagaland State Services Authority and Wokha District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the District Administration, Government departments, stakeholders and NGOs.
Justice, N Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Gauhati High Court & Executive Chairman Nagaland State Legal Services Authority while giving the inaugural speech said that the Legal Services Authority with an objective to reach out to the poor and needy people is conducting such kind of camps so that the targeted section of the society can avail the various welfare measures and beneficial schemes and policies of the government. Through this camp, public are sensitized to let them know about their rights and entitlements so that they can avail maximum benefit out the government schemes.
He added that apart from giving Legal help, the Legal Services Authority is there to help the people in giving necessary information regarding the beneficial schemes where he called upon the general public to always get help from the LSA without any hesitation.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS whole also spoke during the camp, said that people should know their rights and entitlements about the numbers of government schemes to ensure that schemes are properly implemented and for this awareness is very important, where he appealed all to learn and get help during such camps so that targeted section of people get their due share of benefits from government schemes and policies. He also appealed the village councils to actively take up role in generating awareness at the grassroots level to ensure proper planning and formulations of schemes and policies.
Key note address was delivered by Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, Mezivolu T. Therieh, NJS.
During the camp the Legal Services Authority booths offered free legal services such as filling of forms, drafting affidavit etc. The volunteers at various booths assisted the senior citizens, differently-abled persons and daily wage earners to register for various governmental sponsored benefits and schemes. Filling of Schedule Tribe certificates and Birth certificates were also issued during the camp. Beside these many government departments including banks opened stalls to sensitize the general public about the various schemes and policies.
The function was chaired by Chief Judicial Magistrate & Secretary Wokha District Legal Services Authority, Wonchibeni V. Patton, NJS while vote of thanks was proposed by Project Coordinator, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority.
The purpose of the camp is to sensitize the public on free legal aid and particularly to the marginalize section of the society. The public also got the opportunity to interact with several government departments including Banks and get oriented with the various welfare programs/schemes of the government.
