1.35 lakh police infected with COVID-19 in India: Nagaland DGP

Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) T John Longkumer today stated that at least 802 policemen succumbed to the invisible enemy, the COVID virus, while fighting on the frontlines regulating crowds and enforcing lockdowns.

He stated this during the Police Commemoration Day ceremonial parade held at New Police Reserve, Phesama near Kohima on October 21.

As per Bureau of Police Research and Development sources, over 1, 35,000 policemen all over India have tested COVID positive and 802 have lost their lives, he said.

“We mourn the loss; we share the pain of their near and dear ones. But, we also take pride in the valor shown by them and are inspired by their selfless dedication of protecting others. Today is not only a day of mourning but a day when we remember the spirit of selfless sacrifice shown by the martyrs and renew our pledge to serve our people, to secure and maintain the integrity of our nation,” the DGP added.
