1951 Plebiscite must not be separated from final Naga solution: NSCN (IM)

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Monday asserted that the Naga Plebiscite of 1951 “which overwhelmingly voted for the Naga sovereign identity” must not be separated from the final Naga solution.

“In this critical period of the Naga political talks, the Naga people should be proactive to identify who is who in the Naga political matter,” it said in a statement issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity. It cautioned that there are ‘imposters’ who have no respect for the national identity of the Nagas and are “only digging the roads to the Naga solution under the Indian constitution.”

Meanwhile, the NSCN (IM) criticised Convenor of the Working Committee, Nagaland National Political groups (WC, NNPGs) N Kitovi Zhimomi and veteran politician Dr SC Jamir over their recent statements, referring to them as “political wreck to the Nagas.”

It maintained that Kitovi “re-edited the 16 Point Agreement in the form of ‘Agreed Position’ in his surrender formulae for the Naga solution,” and said that while Kitovi’s own group are being misled, “he cannot fool the Naga people who are politically more sensitive and guarded in defending the God’s given Naga nation.”

In the case of Dr SC Jamir, the NSCN (IM) maintained that the veteran politician “continues to kick against stone to keep alive his eternal fight to defend his brainchild, the 16 Point Agreement,” which it said, “never solved the Naga problem.”
