New Delhi, November 3 (MExN): The inaugural Bodoland Mohotsov, a grand event dedicated to the themes of culture, language, and education, is scheduled to take place at the SAI Indira Gandhi Stadium (KD Jadav) in New Delhi on November 15 and 16.
With the central theme "Ethos of Peace & Harmony: An Integral Part for Nation Building," the two-day festival aims to promote sustained peace and vibrant development in the Bodoland region, drawing national attention to its cultural heritage and ongoing efforts for community coexistence.
The event celebrates the rich history of the Bodo community, who have inhabited the Brahmaputra valley for over 5,000 years. The Bodos are recognized as one of the largest indigenous communities in Northeast India, tracing their lineage back to ancient kingdoms such as Pragjyotispur-Kamarupa and Kachari. The festival will highlight their unique traditions, language, and literature, which have not only survived but flourished over time.
Recent treaties between the Government of India and Bodo leaders, including the Bodoland Autonomous Council Accord (1993), the Bodoland Territorial Council Accord (2003), and the Bodo Peace Accord (2020), have marked significant milestones in the community's journey toward peace and development. Following the Bodo Peace Accord, the region has witnessed a remarkable transformation characterized by stability and security, leading to a resurgence of cultural expression.
The Bodoland Mohotsov will feature a range of activities, including thematic discussions, exhibitions, rallies, and vibrant cultural performances. Among the highlights is an open session titled “The Rich Bodo Culture, Tradition, and Literature Contributing Towards Indian Heritage and Traditions.” This session will explore various socio-political and cultural issues relevant to the Bodo community and beyond.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest on November 15, alongside notable dignitaries such as Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, and Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. The event promises to foster collaboration among leaders, academicians, artists, and civil society organizations to create a shared vision for growth and development in the Bodoland region.
On November 16, the festival will also commemorate the 73rd foundation day of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, showcasing the journey of Bodo language and literature. A colorful cultural rally from Rajghat to the India Gate circle will be a visual treat, highlighting the region's rich heritage.
Furthermore, a thematic discussion titled “Challenges and Opportunities of Mother Tongue Medium-of-Instruction through National Education Policy, 2020” will feature prominent educational leaders, including Dr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education. This session aims to address the significance of mother tongue education in uplifting the Bodo community and the broader implications for national education policies.
The Bodoland Mohotsov is organized by the All Bodo Students Union, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and other partner organizations, with the support of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government. The event is anticipated to be a landmark celebration of unity, resilience, and cultural diversity, reaffirming the Bodo community's contributions to India's rich tapestry of heritage.
