DoH&FW clarifies on free Hepatitis services

Kohima, August 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) has clarified that screening, viral load testing, and treatment for Hepatitis B and C are available free of cost at various government health facilities across the state. As per the DIPR report, the clarification comes following a representation submitted by the Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organization (NNagaDAO) seeking a public clarification on a news item and press advertisement related to World Hepatitis Day 2026.

In its response, the department stated that Hepatitis B and C screening tests are available free of cost at District Hospitals, most Community Health Centres (CHCs), some Primary Health Centres (PHCs), as well as in some Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs). Free Viral Load Testing for both Hepatitis B and C is available at the District Hospitals, while free treatment is provided at District Hospitals designated as Treatment Centres, the department added. The department also informed that districts have been authorised to offer free baseline investigations to Hepatitis B and C positive patients. These include Liver Function Test (LFT), Renal Function Test (RFT), Complete Blood Count (CBC), Ultrasound Sonography (USG) Abdomen, Fibroscan, and Prothrombin Time. For any information on services under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP), the public has been advised to contact the nearest government health facility.
