23rd inter-district Dr T Ao Football Championship from September 17

The Nagaland Football Association (NFA) will be organizing the 23rd Inter-district Dr T Ao Football Championship from September 17 to 27 at Tuensang District. 

Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA) as the host of the championship is fully geared up for the success of the mega event, said Tuensang District Planning & Developmental Board chairman and Convenor organizing committee, MLA Limaonen Chang while addressing a press conference at NOA Complex here today.

NFA president K. Neibou Sekhose said that the 16 districts divided into four groups will compete on league cum knockout basis.

The group match will be the league round with the best two to move into the quarter-finals for the knockout round.  

Defending champion Dimapur is in Group A with Nuiland, Chumoukedima and Phek; Group B has Peren, Kohima, Shamator and Zunheboto, Group C has Longleng, Mokokchung, Kiphire and Tuensang while Group D has Mon, Noklak, Tseminyu and Wokha, he said after drawing the fixture in presence of the district officials and hosting officials.

The champion will receive Rs 3 lakh, runners-up Rs 2 lakh and semi-finalist Rs 50,000 each, he said.

Sekhose also informed that the teams have been extended with Rs 50,000 each for the practice sessions while they would also be given the to and fro expenses to Tuensang beside free fooding and lodging during the tournament.

NFA general secretary & MLA Benei M. Lamthui, TDFA president Yangdipi Sangtam and NFA Head of Referee Kevingutuo Sekhose were also present during the press conference.
