2nd edition of Peren District Football League 2024 underway

PEREN, AUGUST 17 (MExN): The 2nd edition of the Peren District Football League (PDFL) 2024 organized by the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) in collaboration with New Jalukie Super League kicked off at New Jalukie local ground on the theme “Fostering Brotherhood, Nurturing Football” on Saturday. 

According to a DIPR report, the opening ceremony of the month-long tournament was graced by Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose as the special guest.

In his address, Kethosituo Sekhose maintained that in terms of talents Peren District is extra-blessed compared to the rest of Nagaland and has produced high class players with the untiring efforts of the leaders of the district and also the talented athletes themselves.

Sekhose claimed that the present day government is focusing to promote sports thereby providing sports infrastructures and projects all over the districts. He also mentioned that the government is looking at promoting sports without gender discrimination as well as physical discrimination. On this note, he urged the parents to encourage their children to participate in tournaments and in training camps so that they can showcase their talents at the world stage in the days to come.

Altogether, 8 (eight) clubs are participating in the tournament namely: Puiteing FC, Kuki FC, Jalukie Falcons FC, Benreu FC, Lekie Mtei FC, Ngaulong NYO FC, Nchangram Lun FC and Kingdom Stewards FC.

Additional Director, Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Megolhu Dolie; Nagaland Football Association President, K Neibou Sekhose; Nagaland Football Coaches Association President, Roko Angami; ADC Jalukie, TL Kiusumong Tikhir and DSO Peren, Asekho Talie were also present during the inaugural function.

Other highlights of the inaugural ceremony include PDFA flag hoisting and launching of PDFA website by the special guest, opening spot light by LM Hr Sec. School, welcome address by PDFA President, Raithu Newmai and PDFA Anthem by Nangkamlak Pame and Isile Hegeu. At the inaugural match, defending champion Puiteing FC defeated Kuki FC by 5-2.
