2nd Grassroots Football Tournament begins in Kohima

The 2nd Grassroots Football Tournament, organised by Kohima District Football Association (KDFA), under the aegis of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), commenced today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

A total of 25 teams, from across the state, are competing across three different categories-U-10, U-13, and U-15.

During the tournament’s inauguration ceremony, President of the Kohima District Veteran Football Association & former advisor to the Government of Nagaland, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, addressed the attendees.

Dr. Kire remarked on the significant changes in the sports scene compared to the past, emphasising the potential for earning a livelihood through sports today.

He urged young athletes to give their best efforts consistently, rather than playing sporadically only during tournaments.

He expressed confidence that the young boys will go on to represent the state with distinction.

The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Neidilhoutuo Sechü, vice president (Admin)  KDFA & secretary Organising committee.

The ceremony began with a prayer by Kezhakietuo Belho, Associate Pastor, Khedi Baptist Church.

KDFA president and convenor of the organising committee, Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome, delivered a welcome address. Neilaü Thaprü presented a song.

Meanwhile, the second day of the event will begin with the first semi final match for the U-13 category to be played between Khelo India Centre Greenwood and Dimapur Sporting Club Soccer School Academy at 1: 00 PM.

The second semi-final match between A Yhome FC and Billy Graham FC will follow.

The final match for the U-10 category will see Gethemgo Sports Academy facing Khelo India Centre Kohima.

As for the U-15 Category, the first semi-final match be played between Kick FC and Chedema Football Academy. The second semi-final match will be played between Khelo India Greenwood and New Market FC.

The semi final matches for both the U-13 and U-15 will be played simultaneously.

The final matches will follow the semi final matches.

The closing ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM on June 29 and will be graced by Angami Sports Association (ASA) president Ruokuovikho Chale as the guest of honour.
