The Charity Club Multipurpose Society conducted a certification programme for the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) at the NEHHDC Training Centre Blue Hill Colony, Wokha on August 21 with Mhabemo Lotha, Functional Manager, DIC, Wokha as the special guest of the event.

During the event, certificates were awarded to 32 beneficiaries.

In his address, Lotha praised the trainees for their commitment and encouraged them to utilise their newly acquired skills for income generation. He highlighted the critical role of self-employment, noting that the government cannot provide jobs for everyone. He voiced concerns about the prevalent focus on securing government positions in Nagaland, despite the government’s limited capacity to employ all job seekers. Lotha urged the trainees to consider entrepreneurship and small-scale business ventures, suggesting that forming groups or societies could enhance their impact. He encouraged them to start small ventures for self-sustenance and to set an example for others.

Choncho M Ezung, General Secretary of the Charity Club Multipurpose Society, provided an overview of the PMKVY STT scheme. Ezung reported that while 150 trainees had initially enrolled, only a few completed the programme due to technical difficulties and issues with Aadhaar biometric verification. He emphasised the high demand for handloom products in the district and the shortage of trained individuals to meet this demand. Ezung urged trainees to focus on skill enhancement and addressing local needs rather than solely pursuing certificates and subsidies.

Anuranjan Singh, SDO and Project Manager Wokha, expressed satisfaction with the programme’s turnout. He encouraged trainees to make use of the training centre, which also serves as a production hub, to market their products. Singh highlighted the unique design of Lotha tradition and its market demand, urging trainees to be innovative and responsive to market needs.

Bidyut Sharma, Executive of NEHHDC, advised trainees to connect with the organisation for opportunities in exhibitions and events, encouraging them to leverage their skills to boost production.

The event was chaired by Renboni Ngullie, with the welcome address delivered by Robin Enny and the vote of thanks given by Loreno Ezung.
