DYRS clinches overall championship

The 34th Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship 2024 concluded today at Phek Town under the aegis of the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) and Department of Youth Resource and Sports (DYRS) Government of Nagaland under the theme “Be the Best.”
DYRS emerged the team champion title while Dimapur district runner-up. Wokha district was declared as the best discipline team.
Addressing the valedictory function, John Tsulise Sangtam, Deputy Commissioner, Phek, lauded the efforts of NTA led by its president Pele Khezhie in bringing many laurels to the state over the last 34 years. He lauded the state Taekwondo players for bringing good name and fame to the state.
Sangtam exhorted the players to strive for excellence and adopt a healthy lifestyle. He stressed the significance of fostering friendships through sports and expressed gratitude to the public leaders and well-wishers for their unwavering support.
He also expressed gratitude to NTA officials, churches, Media fraternity, Phek District Taekwondo Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association, Phek Town Youth Society, Department of Tourism, TaFMA, PWD housing, and the entire Department for successful conduct of the 34th Taekwondo Championship.
Phek Town Council chairperson Shevohu Nienu stated that Taekwondo is not just a physical activity, but also a mental discipline that focus perseverance and self-control. The valedictory programme was chaired by PTC deputy chairperson, Chetezo Akami. Vote of thanks was proposed by Neikhote Theke.
