Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): A one-day 3D Printing (3DP) workshop for education was organised in Immanuel College, Dimapur by Assam Electronic Development Corporation Limited on March 13 with Ira Bhatia, Team Lead at DIC UIET, Panjab University and Karan Chadha, Consultant Industry 4.0 for North Eastern Region as the resource person, stated a press release received here. 

The programme was attended by Holy Cross Hr Sec School, Govt High School, Nagaland Tool Room and Training Center, Pranabananda Women's College, Immanuel College and Christian Hr Sec School. 

Ira Bhatia elucidated that 3DP is a technology revolution which is introduced to enhance and develop better equipment with zero waste products in any manufacturing industries and provide ease of living. It is a boon to Aerospace industries, educational institutions, hospitals and even small scale industries. 3DP is an additive manufacturing that enables the production of geometrically complex objects, shapes and textures. It often uses less material than traditional manufacturing methods and allows the production of items that were simply not possible to produce economically with traditional manufacturing. 

Its raw material can be anything from plastic to wood to food and even living cells to manufacture the object in any desired shape which was previously impossible, the commonly used materials are resins, polymers and metal.

The speaker projected a short video which throws light on the function of 3DP where it says that ‘with 3DP Engineers in aerospace make parks of jet engines that are lighter and stronger to make airplane more efficient and use less fuel, doctor make new bones that are perfectly fitted for patients, 3D printed food has also enter into the arena of kitchen where chefs are experimenting to new culinary dimensions.’ 

“Hospitals are nonetheless using it to make new body parts for people to repair fractures and also make organs from cartilage,” it stated. 

The speaker highlighted that the project of 3DP is aligned with PM-DevINE Objective and SDG 2030 Goals. Some of the parameters are:  SDG 3- Good health and Well Being- Ease of Living, SDG 4- Quality Education, SDG 5-Gender Equity, and SDG 9- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructures etc. 

The project also aimed to reduce the need out of Pocket expenses, reduce inconveniences while accessing services, and to promote ease of living and ease of doing businesses. The project will open a flood gate of opportunities for the youth of North East Regions to acquire skills sets for better employability, in service Engineers for oil and gas/mining industries, industrial Tooling for ITI/Polytechnics, MSME services like Dentistry, gifts and accessories and Export Services to Border Areas. 

Some of the activities planned out for programs are Training Hub in Guwahati, Demo use  cases spoke in other 7 States of NER including Shilchar; MOOC courses on 3D technologies with teaching content supported by videos/Animation; Hackathon and competition with Prize money of Rs 50 lakh for startups/Entrepreneurs.
