The 4th phase of the Chief Minister's Mobile Operation Theatre (CM-MOT) reached new heights in Tuensang and Tobu, with landmark laparoscopic surgeries performed for the first time in both areas. The medical camp, held on April 25-26 at Tuensang District Hospital and April 28 at Tobu Sub-division in Mon, brought hope and healing to countless individuals in the region.

An update from the CM-MOT medical team shared that 28 major surgeries were performed at Tuensang, while 48 surgeries were carried out in Tobu, covering a wide range of specialties. Notably, this initiative marked the first-ever laparoscopic surgeries conducted in these districts, showcasing the significant advancements in healthcare being brought to remote areas.

The surgeries addressed a variety of conditions across different age groups, with procedures ranging from pediatric cases such as phimosis and hernias to gynecological surgeries, including the removal of uterine tumours and ovarian cysts. General surgical cases, such as gall bladder stones and kidney stones, as well as dental treatments like extractions, restorations, and scaling, were also successfully completed. Additionally, orthopaedic cases were treated during the camp.

A particularly poignant case involved a woman suffering from a massive uterine fibroid weighing almost 8 kilos. Due to financial constraints, she had been unable to seek treatment in Kohima or Dimapur. "She couldn’t come to Kohima or Dimapur because of financial constraint," shared one of the doctors involved in the surgery. Thanks to the CM-MOT initiative and the availability of laparoscopic surgery, the tumour was successfully removed, providing the woman with much-needed relief.

The medical camp was led by Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, MLA of Kohima Town, a renowned laparoscopic surgeon in the North-East region. He was joined by a dedicated team of medical professionals, including Dr Kuotho T Nyuwi, Onco Surgeon & Assistant Professor at NIMSR Medical College; Dr Rovino Kera, General Surgeon; Dr Keneilhoulie Medom, Anesthesiologist and Managing Director of Kohima Hospital; and Dr Lanu Mollier, Dentist.

The MLA of Tobu, Naiba Konyak, and local governing bodies were present to show their support and appreciation for the medical team's selfless efforts. “Their presence underscored the community's gratitude for the CM-MOT initiative, which continues to serve as a beacon of healthcare excellence, especially for those in rural and underserved areas,” an official from CM-MOT added.

Launched on January 26, 2025, by Nagaland’s Governor, La Ganesan, the CM-MOT aims to provide advanced surgical and healthcare services to remote and rural areas. The first CM-MOT camp was held in Meluri district, and since then, it has continued to extend its reach, bringing life-saving medical care closer to the people.
