4th Inter-Department Badminton tournament 2024 in Kohima underway

The 4th edition of the Inter-Department Badminton Tournament 2024 (Kohima edition) under the aegis of Inter-Department Badminton Club (IDBC) Kohima commenced here today at Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) multipurpose hall.

Gracing the opening ceremony as the special guest, MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso was optimistic that this tournament  will not only keep the players fit physically but keep the society fit in terms of good understanding and progress.

He also hoped that this tournament will smash away the misunderstanding amongst the departments and create more love, affection and humility.

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, things are progressing well in different departments,” he maintained.

IDBC president Shanavas C said “We are playing badminton just to keep ourselves fit, mentally and physically and to encourage the youngsters to go to the higher level.”

We are trying to motivate the young generation through this kind of initiative, he added.

In this, he urged all the departments to come together and promote the game of badminton.

This camaraderie should carry forward even beyond this kind of tournament, he added.

The tournament features men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, 50+ etc.

The winner will walk away with a prize money Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 for the runner up for each category.

26 departments joined the tournament, which will conclude on August 17.

Earlier, the opening ceremony was chaired by Kelhikha Kenye while Zhaviu Pienyu, youth pastor CRMC Kohima invoked God’s blessings. Rokovi Mathew Khawakhrie presented special number.

Meanwhile, Kovi Meyase, president Kohima District Badminton Association will grace the closing ceremony on August 17.
