The 5th edition of VT Women’s Basketball Tournament under the aegis of Vision Trinity (VT) Club commenced today at Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama.

Gracing the opening ceremony, Hope Academy principal Sashila Ozukum said that the objective of this tournament are not merely commendable but deeply inspiring as it strives to promote women’s empowerment and hygiene through the medium of sports.

“It is awe-inspiring to witness how sports can serve as a powerful catalyst for women’s empowerment, nurturing qualities such as confidence, discipline, and leadership,” she said.

When women are encouraged to excel in sports, they are poised to excel in every facet of life, she said.

Ozukum maintained that this tournament serves as a crucial platform for women to showcase their prowess in the realm of sports.

This tournament had already been instrumental in producing gold medalists from Nagaland who proudly represented Nagaland state at the senior national tournament in Mizoram in 2022, she said.

She subscribed that sports not only promote physical well-being but also instill the values of teamwork, determination, and perseverance.

Ozukum also praised the Vision Trinity Club for their relentless efforts in transforming this tournament into a reality “as this tournament symbolizes our unwavering commitment to the growth and advancement of women in sports.”

Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) project director Dr. Hovithal Sothu unveiled the new trophy.

Earlier, Vision Trinity Club president Nunese Sale delivered welcome address.

Tshekulhi Thopi chaired the opening ceremony program.

Orca on day 1
In the inaugural match, TMB defeated All Blacks (26- 16). TBA overpowered Aces (37-18) while Orca defeated JCC (58-5) in the 2nd and 3rd match respectively.
Altogether, seven teams- All Blacks,TMB, Loyola, Aces, TBA (Touchline Basketball Academy) from Shillong, Orca  and JCC(Japfu Christian College), have registered for this 5th edition, which will continue till October 21.
The champion will fetch a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 while runner-up will get Rs. 15,000. There will also be prize for MVP, most discipline team and best team jersey.
