70th All India Railway Table Tennis Championship kicks off

Maligaon, August 12 (MExN): The 70th All India Railway Table Tennis Championship (Men & Women) for the 2024-2025 season has officially commenced at the N.F. Railway Indoor Stadium in Maligaon, Guwahati. The event began on August 12, with a grand opening ceremony led by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Shrivastava, who inaugurated the championship by hoisting the Tournament Flag, addressed the gathering of players, officials, and spectators. He was joined by senior officials from NFR and the N.F. Railway Sports Association (NFRSA). “This championship is not only a celebration of talent and sportsmanship but also a testament to our commitment to fostering excellence in railway sports,” Shrivastava remarked during his speech.

Sandeep Sharma, President of NFRSA, welcomed all participants and officials. The championship, which will run for five days, is set to conclude on August 16, 2024. “We are excited to host such a prestigious event and look forward to a week of exceptional table tennis action,” Sharma said.

A total of 19 teams, including 13 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, will compete in the tournament. Approximately 180 participants, including players, coaches, officials, referees, and Railway Sports Promotion Board observers, are involved. The championship features notable national players, including Jeet Chandra, Anirban Ghosh, Akash Pal, and Ronit Bhanja in the men’s category, and Sutirtha Mukherjee, Poymantee Baisya, and Moumita Dutta among the women.
