DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 4 (MExN): Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and Chairman of the National Mountain Running Committee, Abu Metha represented India at the 39th World Mountain Running Congress at Chiangmai, Thailand. 

The Congress is held under the aegis of the World Mountain Running Congress and World Athletics, the apex global body for Athletics. This is the first time that a sports administrator from Nagaland has represented the country at a world congress, a press release from Nagaland Athletics informed. 

Metha also met WMRA President, TomoŠarf and Secretary, Nancy Hobbs and highlighted India’s potential in this discipline, considering the fact that India is home to the Himalayas and other mountain ranges. 

It may be recalled that with the support of the State Government, India had successfully hosted the South Asian Cross Country Championships in March 2022 at Kohima, which was organised by Nagaland Athletics. 

All members of Nagaland Athletics places in record it’s appreciation to the Athletics Federation of India under the Presidentship of Olympian Adille Sumariwala and Chairman of the Planning Committee Dr Lalit K Bhanot for bestowing the confidence and responsibility upon Abu Metha to serve the country in various capacities. 

“Nagaland Athletics continues to be a contributing and participating member of the national athletics and sports fraternity and looks forward to working closely with the AFI to further promote the cause of sports under the Olympic spirit while creating opportunities and vistas for our talents and the youth,” it added.
