AGE outbreak affects 316 in Mon

The Nagaland state health department has informed that the ailment that resulted in the death of 3 persons in Mon was an outbreak of Acute Gastro Enteritis (AGE).  

The outbreak was first reported on August 3 in Wanching Village under Wakching block of Mon District. Till the filing of this report, there have been 316 cases of AGE, out of which 30 patients required admission and 3 deaths resulted from the infection.  

7 medical teams, including the Quick Reaction Team, Rapid Response Team and Mobile Medical Team have been mobilized, with the department maintaining that the outbreak has been contained.  

Additionally medical teams comprising of the medical officer and staff have been deployed in all the affected villages. The Information Education and Communication wing of the department has also been mobilized to disseminate health education on proper hygiene, consumption of boiled water, hand washing and other preventive measures.  

A press release form the Department of Health and Family Welfare informed that the activities for outbreak intervention, investigation, related logistics and management are being monitored by the control centre set up in the state and district headquarters.  

It added that such outbreaks are of a seasonal nature and advised people to take preventive measures as stated above.  

The department meanwhile also extended gratitude to the district administration of Mon, Longleng and the Assam Rifles stationed at Wakching for their cooperation and assistance in the logistics for enabling smooth conduct of health care delivery to the affected villages and areas.
