AICF FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament 2026 concludes at Ngwalwa

Peren, February 14 (MExN): The AICF Chess for Everyone FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament 2026 concluded today after five days of intense and inspiring competition held at the Ngwalwa Village Council Hall, Peren, Nagaland, from February 10 to 14.

The tournament was hosted by the Inter-School Chess Association – Ngwalwa Circle (ISCA-NC) under the aegis of the Nagaland Chess Association and the All India Chess Federation, bringing together a total of 40 participants, and creating a vibrant platform for both experienced and emerging chess players.

Throughout the tournament, the playing hall remained calm and disciplined as players displayed remarkable concentration, strategic brilliance, and exemplary sporting spirit. The final round witnessed decisive battles across all categories, ultimately determining the champions and prize winners.

The event was conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Vekukho Soho (FA), assisted by Deputy Arbiter Mengise Haikam (SNA) along with other dedicated officials of ISCA-NC, ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of the competition. 

In the premier Open Category, Vesho Doulo emerged as Champion with an outstanding score of 9 points. Ilung Haikam secured the 1st Runner-Up position with 7½ points, followed by Icicang Haikam as 2nd Runner-Up with 7 points. Akangzang Haikam finished in 4th position, while Doson Isipeung, Kediteilungbe, and Kekuyisile Ilunglung completed the top ranks with commendable performances.

Age Category Winners
In the Under-11 Boys category, Tezeve Doulo claimed 1st position, with Ilungding Ilunglung finishing 2nd and Reku Haikam securing 3rd place.

The Under-15 Boys title was won by Iheibe, followed by Keyiharangbe Doson in 2nd place and Emran Haque in 3rd position.

In the Under-15 Girls section, Kelungheigumle emerged champion, while Keyiziuna Nsa and Rulevelu Swuro secured the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

The Under-19 Boys category saw Mamnun Alom take the top honour, followed by Injamul Haque and Timothy Nsa in second and third positions.

In the Under-19 Girls category, Vekutolu Swuro clinched the championship, while Lungliaheile Hau finished as runner-up and Kiebamsile secured third place.

ISCA Players Category
Among ISCA players, Maciding Doson secured 1st position, followed closely by Namyilungbe Hau in 2nd place and Haicigwangbe in 3rd position. The successful completion of the tournament marked another significant milestone in promoting chess education and competitive spirit in Peren district. The organisers expressed gratitude to the All India Chess Federation and the Nagaland Chess Association for their continued support, and also thanked the players, parents, officials, and supporters whose cooperation made the event a grand success.

The tournament not only crowned deserving champions but also strengthened the growing chess culture among young learners, reaffirming chess as a powerful tool for discipline, critical thinking, and intellectual development in the region.
