The Regional News Unit (RNU) of Akashvani Kohima organised a one-day workshop for its Part-Time Correspondents (PTCs) from across Nagaland at the RNU Kohima conference hall on September 17.
Interacting with the correspondents, S Subramanian, Additional Director General (News), News Services Division (NSD), Akashvani, New Delhi, highlighted the role of Regional News Units in bringing local events and developments to national audiences. He observed that many stories from the Northeast do not find space in national bulletins and urged the PTCs to help connect the region with the mainstream through their reporting.
Mohd Naseem Naqvi, Deputy Director, RNU, NSD, Akashvani, New Delhi, stressed the importance of credibility in news reporting, stating that accuracy should take precedence over speed. He also encouraged the correspondents to highlight Nagaland’s rich culture, flora and fauna in their reports.
Bhupendra Singh, News Editor, RNU, NSD, Akashvani, New Delhi, also spoke on the importance of reporting local stories for a national audience.
Senior journalist Alice Yhoshu spoke on the fundamentals of journalistic writing and ethics, stressing the importance of putting facts first. She highlighted the objectives of report writing and noted that journalists carry a significant responsibility in their work.
Mary, Editorial Executive, RNU Kohima, spoke on the process of taking reports “from the field to the airwaves,” with a focus on radio news reporting from the State perspective.
Asonuo, Additional Director (News), RNU Kohima, addressed the use of smartphones in journalism and discussed mobile journalism, focusing on the process of turning smartphone into news rooms.
A PTC from Kohima shared insights on “beyond the script” and the experiences of working as a Part-Time Correspondent. PTCs from nine districts of Nagaland attended the workshop.
