AKM raises red flag as truant RTO leaves Mokokchung public stranded

Mokokchung, February 20 (MExN): Residents of Mokokchung are reportedly facing significant inconvenience in availing various transport-related services due to the alleged repeated absences of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) from office.

In response, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has lodged a complaint with the Transport Commissioner of Nagaland, raising concerns over the officer’s absence.

The RTO’s presence is essential for services such as licence applications, vehicle registrations and other transport-related matters, it stated.

According to the apex students’ body of the Ao tribe, several citizens, including AKM officials, have visited the RTO office multiple times only to find the officer unavailable.

This has forced people to make repeated visits, leading to unnecessary delays and hardships, particularly for those who travel from rural towns and villages, the AKM alleged in its complaint.

The lack of proper accountability and responsiveness is affecting the efficiency of the department and causing distress to the general public, it pointed out.

While the AKM raised this issue with the Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung in 2024, considering his position as the District Head, the concerned officer has yet to show any signs of sincerity, it added.

To this end, the AKM sought the immediate intervention of the Transport Commissioner and urged them to take the necessary measures to ensure the RTO’s regular presence at their designated posting.

It also urged the department to implement a monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability and the smooth functioning of the office, added the complaint appended by AKM President Lanutoshi Aier and General Secretary Satemmongba.
