All India Cooperative Week celebrated in Nagaland

The 70th All India Cooperative Week under the theme ‘Role of cooperative in making India 5 trillion Economy and SDGs’ was celebrated in Nagaland. 

In Kiphire, the week was celebrated at RM Seili Complex, Kiphire with John Tsulise Sangtam, DC Kiphire as guest of honour in the presence of various HoDs. 

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said Cooperative Societies are the backbone of the nation and as such the nation was progressing in development because cooperative societies are playing a very important role in the rural economy. 

Emphasising on the importance of strong local economy, he said the opportunity extended to the societies by the government must be utilised properly so that societies become self reliant and must be in a position to give back to society. 

He further added that out of 400 plus registered societies in Kiphire, only around 50 are active and functioning. He suggested that those societies which are not functioning needs to be de-registered.

On the importance for the societies to be profitable in any business, he advised the members to get into activities by studying and analysing the needs of the consumers in the market rather than simply getting into business by blindly following others.

Stating that there was no shortcut to success, he said for any business to be successful, patience, hardwork and dedication are keys and one must do away with the culture of wanting to become rich overnight.

Delivering the keynote address, K Lerichum Anar, ARCS, Kiphire said the 70th All India Cooperative Week is been celebrated by the National Cooperative Union of India to generate cooperative awareness amongst the public and connect them to the cooperative movement.

He said the theme of this year's Cooperative week celebration is ' Role of Cooperative in making India a 5 trillion Economy and SDGs.' He added that the government has also taken necessary steps to revamp cooperative education and training besides giving due focus to formulation of new cooperative policy. 

Sharing his experience, Chumlongse Sangtam, Chairman, Atsitsa Large Area Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Ltd expressed gratitude to the various departments for the guidance and assistance provided to the society over the course of time. He said Atsitsa society was running effectively because of the constant support and assistance provided by various department, especially departments such as KVK, Horticulture, Fishery and Cooperative. He further added that cooperative societies have a vital role to play in shaping local economy.

The programme was chaired by Tsipongse Anar, ARCS and vote of thanks delivered by Muwali Y Sangtam. Meanwhile in the 2nd session seminar on programmes and initiatives of the Ministry of Cooperation and Q&A session on the initiative of the Ministry was held.

Mokokchung: In Mokokchung, the event was organized by the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Mokokchung at Sangtemla Multi-Purpose Hall.

ADC Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe said the force in making a society strong and moving forward is through the culture of cooperation and working collectively. He said that if most the registered societies in the district are active, it would surely be a thriving force to lead the community/society to another level. He maintained that in order to fulfill the objective of the department (Co -Operative Societies), it is not only the efforts of the employees alone but active role and participation of the community is vital. He also urged the individuals as well as the societies to be prompt in repaying whatever loan is availed from the bank in order to progress collectively.
