ANCSU calls for exemption of CUET for colleges in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, MARCH 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has written to the Chief Secretary, appealing for exemption of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for affiliated  and autonomous colleges in Nagaland for the academic year 2023-2024.

In its letter, the ANCSU acknowledged that CUET will not just remove the disparity between students from different boards, reduce the hassle of multiple examinations and bias in evaluations but also enable the students to pursue their field of interest with a fair opportunity and seek admission to the best possible university.

However, it said that in Nagaland there are still operational difficulties to ardently implement CUET through online mode CBT. “As there is no proper digital connectivity in many parts of Nagaland due to geographical condition/ hilly terrain and even in areas where access to internet is available there is no consistency and stability of network because of poor electricity,” it pointed out.

The ANCSU further stated that though the National Testing Agency has identified 523 Common Service Centres from 10 districts in Nagaland for conducting CUET exam, many CSC/Facilitation centres are not operating for the genuine reasons mentioned above. Moreover, it informed that there is no CSC/Facilitation centre in some districts especially far-flung locations.

Therefore, the ANCSU appealed to the Chief Secretary to request the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Education to consider the case of colleges in Nagaland (affiliated to NU & autonomous) from the purview of CUET and allow the students to take admission in their affiliated colleges as per the past practice for the academic year 2023-2024.

The ANCSU hoped that “justice will be delivered to the students’ community and the response towards this appeal will not deprive or jeopardizes the career of students in any manner.”
