Call for fostering better understanding, unity

The Angami women leaders’ thanksgiving programme under the aegis of Angami Women Organization (AWO) took place today at RCEMPA, Jotsoma near Kohima.
AWO President Neithono R Sothu informed that during the programme, AWO former presidents outlined strategies for fostering better understanding, unity and peaceful co-existence in the society. They (AWO former presidents) also stressed on the need to maintain integrity in challenging times and to strive for strengthening women livelihood activities.
83 years Kereilhouviii Kire (AWO former president) urged the Angami women not to rest on their laurels but to strive harder for greater excellence in different sectors. She commended Salhoutuonuo Kruse for becoming the first woman cabinet minister of Nagaland, thereby strengthening the status of Angami women in politics.
AWO former president Neisevoü Kirha (97 years) challenged the Angami women to preserve and promote the traditional dresses and the rich cultural heritage. For commercial activities of local products, she underscored the need to make it affordable for customers.
AWO former president Neilhuzono Nagi challenged the Angami women to reason together and protect women’s rights and dignity. In an endeavour to promote Tenyidie, she informed that AWO have instituted an award for Tenyidie toppers in Class X & 12 exam.
‘Work together for a vibrant society’
AWO former president Medovino Phizo called upon the Angami women to put God first in everything and work together for a vibrant society and to triumph over evil.
Ruokuoheü Miachieo and Kevinourheno Seyie, both former presidents of AWO also spoke at the programme.
Earlier, Angami Public Organization (APO) President, Thejao Vihienuo shared greetings and commended the invaluable contribution of AWO’s pioneers and leaders. Wishing AWO to grow from strength to strength, he also called upon AWO to keep rendering yeomen service to the Angami community.
AWO General Secretary Shyien Vihienuo informed that AWO was formed in 1980 with Khriengu-ii Kire as the first president. She said that AWO spread over 105 villages in four ranges- Chakroma Women Organization, Northern Angami Women Organization, Southern Angami Women Organization and Western Angami Women Organization.
Rev Zakiebeinyii Peseyie prayed for the programme. Kevinguno Meyase and Lozino Joan Rhetso assisted as music leader and pianist respectively. The programme was chaired by AWO president Neithono R Sothu while vote of thanks was proposed by AWO vice president Visosano H Kuotsu. Angami Students’ Union (ASU) President Khriesamhalie David Mere and Angami Sports Association (ASA) president Rokovikho Chale also present at the programme.
