Anti-dengue activities ramp up across Dimapur district

Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): With the confirmation of two dengue cases in the district, anti-dengue activities have ramped up across the district under the aegis of National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, Dimapur Unit.

To contain further spread of dengue, mini health camps have been organised at Arok village, Lungwiram and Pilgrim Higher Secondary School. During these camps, awareness on dengue and other vector borne diseases are disseminated. A total of 107 blood samples for dengue have been collected during the camp and over 150 beneficiaries have been screened for malaria and other vector borne diseases. 

“No positive cases were detected,” Dr Kavito Zhimomi, District Vector Borne Officer cum District Surveillance Officer, Dimapur stated in a press release.

The team also visited Mishikito village and in collaboration with the village authorities conducted house to house visit to inspect any potential breeding ground for mosquitoes and spread awareness to remove mosquito breeding grounds and to take preventive measures against vector borne diseases like JE, dengue, malaria, etc. Entomological studies have also been conducted in various high risk areas in the district and fogging and other anti-dengue activities have also been carried out in several high risk areas around Dimapur.

Dr Kavito Zhimomi has urged the public to support these anti-dengue activities carried out by the department by keeping their surroundings clean and ensuring to drain any objects that collect water around the house, use mosquito nets at night and use mosquito repellants, wear clothes that covers the body such as full length pant and long sleeves and cover any water storages or standing water. He further requested the public to get tested for dengue or malaria if any suspected symptoms occur.

He also informed that more anti-dengue and other vector borne diseases control measures related activities are being carried out across the district and therefore, requested the public to co-operate and support the department and the health workers when the aforementioned activities are being carrying out in their localities.
