AR demolition needles AKM

Dimapur, July 19 (MExN): Personnel of the 9th Assam Rifles are criticized for demolishing a local monument in Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district.  The Ao students’ conference said today that the Assam rifles demolished “Mangmetong Village Council Monument” on July 9. The personnel were stated to be under the command of a Colonel Rohit khari, Commanding Officer. The Ao Students’ Conference issued a note today condemning the “imperious action” of the 9th Assam Rifles. The students’ organizations took note of the AR’s ‘arrogance.’

“Nagas has a distinctive way of preserving history, as such the people of Mangmetong villagers has been contemplative enough to enlighten the Nagas particularly the upcoming generation of their village, about the ‘sacrifices and contributions’ they have made in the history of Naga political movement,” stated a note from the AKM today. By demolishing a monument, the AKM explained, the 9th Assam Rifles can never distort or rewrite the history of Naga History.

“What is written in the monument is a fact; therefore it will always remain a fact and under no circumstances or condition, no one is empowered to go on rampant destruction of other people’s property as and when he pleases.”

The AKM also Article 371-A of the Constitution of India which safeguard of religious and social practices of the Naga people, according to their traditional and customary law and usages.

“Therefore the AKM feels that the action of 9th AR is a clear indication of arrogance and an insult to the Nagas, particularly the Mangmetong villagers for which the CO of 9th AR should make an unconditional public apology to Mangmetong village council for his action.”
