Are Naga leaders dwelling too much on the politics of grievances rather than fostering the politics of aspiration and hope?

Some of those who voted  YES had this to say:
•    Dont the Naga leaders realize that people are getting frustrated. The Naga society including churches, independence movement, and the people in general are getting more and more corrupted and also the core values are being destroyed. Unless the leaders now focus on the future, how do they expect the people to follow them. The new Naga generation is more aware and educated and is tired of the way that the older Naga leaders are functioning. Sadly, even the new politicians are behaving just like the older ones. We need leaders who are future oriented and who have a vision for the Naga people.
•    Most of our national groups seem to be fighting for a battle of the past.
•    True…the essence of who is right and who is wrong seems to be more important than what is actually right for our people. aspiration and hope seems to be only a cloak
•    Future is what we will be facing not the past. Politicians are not farsighted.
•    Whenever these leaders go outside of Nagaland..they dont realise..plain people dont give a shit as to who they r..even a big shot..Ministers, Secys, Directors of our land is least given privileges..u should see for yourself next time u happen to be on the same way, travelling..
•    Yes, no leader worth its sale has ever given a statement that dwells on the Naga future. All that they do is talk about the past, criticize each other in a humiliating way. There is no mention about what the Naga future will look like. So what will become of our future then? This is the concern of all the younger generation.
•    These politicos are good for nothing chaps.
•    Without hope there is no future. And presently, the Naga people do not see and feel any hope in the present state of affairs. Our leaders, despite their personal sacrifices are turning the Naga issue into a personal matter and this is the biggest obstacle for hope. Why cant the Naga leaders stop thinking about themselves and start working for the common cause of all Nagas. It is by protecting and working for the general will of the people that the individual hopes and aspirations will be met.
•    Why do they always keep on digging up old stories of NNC<NSCN<GPRN..etc etc..instead of harboring new ideas and plans for the next gen.
•    Absolutely the answer is yes. But not against or in support of any party. That means politicians are all the same. But don’t wanna have Anna’s kinda politicians here.
•    What possible changes can these fellows bring?? All they know is how to go to Delhi n bring back loads if schemes and bogus packages for their own good.
•    We see them on always on the way to Delhi every time am travelling..Instead of wasting the public money by travelling so much, why not focus on what we got n what can we do to improve our land.
•    They dont even realise that new generations need stability and confidence from our leaders, so that we can at least be free from the old age politics of NAGALAND.
•    The more the leaders harp on the past, the more it is driving the younger generations of Nagas away from their history. This is because the young people are fed up. The Naga leaders keep using the Naga history as an excuse for their own failures. They don’t have the courage to point out what is good and bad for the Nagas. Its high time that the leaders realize that they are already disconnected from the people.
•    The Naga people should not allow any leader to misuse and abuse Naga history for their own personal political gains. The public must hold the leaders accountable and demand that they spell out what future they envision for the Nagas.

Some of those who voted NO  had this to say:

•    I say the past is important. Without the past what kind of future will we Nagas have. Today, most of the Naga youngsters have forgotten their past and that is the reason why they are confused about who they are. They have sold out their nationalism. What a pity.
•    Our leaders don’t have vision. They only live for the moment.
•    Give their motivation and personal interest I think the Naga leaders are doing what they need to do. It is by invoking emotion that they are able to retain their power and position. The greater responsibility should lie with the people. The people should no longer allow their leaders to take them for a ride. Its time to do away with leaders who think of nothing but themselves.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• The politics of appeasing certain sections of our society is becoming dangerous to our unity. We need to find a common ground for our aspirations and hopes. Rather the politicians are the root cause of the disparity in the development of ou...r land. Whose grievances? Crores of money is given to the MLAs of the districts every year and not to the districts. Even if a fraction of this money was spent for the development of the districts all will be living a better life. There is no sensible politics at all.
•    The people will have to demand the changes. Everyone including the CM is a victim and ensnared by the rotten system. The demand for a common vision and aspiration will have to come from the united people of all districts. The politicians are not only the legislatures but have become the executives too. They have taken over the role of the administrators, engineers, contractors, suppliers, farmers and so on. Naga leaders should mean the hoho leaders. Leaders of all the districts should come together and chalk out the demands on how the districts should be governed or how the state- district relationship should be. The Naga People should not be thinking in boxes. Only the united Naga people's voice can put the politicians and the bureaucrats in their rightful places. The system will not change by itself, it has to be motivated from outside sources to make the change. Till such a time arrives, we will continue to see the tamasha.
•    I don’t think it makes any difference to our Naga leaders. They are too busy trying to promote their own interest. They don’t care about the Naga people at all.
•    Too many Naga leaders have profited from the Naga history. They should now turn the page.
•    It depends on how one’s perspectives particularly refers to in terms of Naga leaders individually or collectively from all walks of life in the current context of the Naga society in general. Well my take on over all Naga leaders is that as all being driven by herd-like mentality where the mantra of “thinking out of the box” ought to be the order of the day. They keep running round in circles, nothing much like charisma, dynamism, integrity, etc can be derived from their leadership though the younger generation may not be lacking in leaders in any given field, what is found wanting is role model or for that matter iconic figure in the day-to-day life of the Naga people, for which our Naga historical and legitimate grievances seems to be reduced to petty grievances as a result of unrealism, parochialism, myopia, you name it. And it reminds me of John Steinbeck’s “most people live 90% in the past, 7% in the present, and that only leaves only 3% for the future.
