Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Yes there is concern for the Nagas who are living in Burma, NC Hills, Tirap and Changlang, Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati and Tamenlong but this is not being felt. Other Nagas cannot also expect Nagas in Nagaland to do everything, at the same time the Nagas in Nagaland must know that the Nagas in other areas are far more oppressed, exploited and economically deprived. Nagas in other areas are now minorities in other states and so there is a limitation to the extent they can contribute. But to have better solidarity, the high suspicion and distrust must be erased once and for all. We must all realize that we are Nagas, we all have our own potentials and together we can create a better Naga nation.
• Yes but very complicated, exploiting the common people sentiment over shadow the very Nagas within Nagaland people problem. And our Leaders in all walks of life are too selfish. Lack of concerned/ commitment/sincerity. Our future generation Education/development and the progress of the state people welfares at large are forgotten history.
• We ought to. Why allow the divide and rule policy of India to succeed?
• I will not say that Nagaland state Nagas are not concerned about the rights and well being of the Nagas in other areas. The degree of concern may not be as much as it should be, but generally there is the presence of family care. One of the reasons why the concern is not as much as it should be is because there is a lot of mis-information. Today a young student of Nagaland state will not even know who the Nagas are. They think only those in Nagaland state are Nagas. This is the way the government tries to divide the people. This confusion was not there before the formation of Nagaland state in 1964. This is the reason why Naga history should be taught in schools and colleges and people should learn who the Nagas are and where they live irrespective of boundaries. Secondly, the Nagas of Nagaland are unsure how to extend help to the other Nagas, probably because they themselves are caught up just trying to meet needs end. Finally, the Naga factions have failed to present a vision of the Naga future to the people and this is why everything is in a utter mess and confusion.
• Other nagas are also recognized as naga tribe as per 6th schedule of Indian constitution. All nagas are well-cultured as its identity.
• If there was not Naga movement, the present state of Nagaland may have been one of the districts in Assam along with the other Naga areas which now falls in assam, arunachal, manipur and myanmar. Imagine if the present state of Nagaland continued to be a district in Assam, what would our conditions be. Thanks to the Naga freedom movement, that at least we attained Nagaland state. This Nagaland state was supposed to comprise all Naga areas, but unfortunately this did not materialize in reality. So the efforts must continue. We Nagas in Nagaland must realize that this Nagaland state was created because of the contribution of all Nagas and because of the Naga national cause. So let us help each other and work together for all Nagas everywhere.
• Yes, for being Nagas. We are right to be concerned.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• The Nagas of Nagaland are not concerned about the state and right of affairs of fellow Nagas in other states up to a desired extent. Nagaland as the state exclusively for the Nagas should take the lead in fighting for the right and prosperity of their fellow Nagas in other states. Sometimes we find that narrow mindedness and misunderstanding of the Naga history has led to the misunderstanding of the Nagas living in other states by their fellow brethrens living in Nagaland. It is sad to see that even many young educated minds have been brainwashed by anti fellow Naga sentiments and propagandas propagated by selfish anti Naga elements. Some people have the thought that Nagas living in Nagaland are the only true Nagas which is completely false. Infact if we go through Naga history we will find that most Naga historical sites and origin places can be traced to her neighboring states than Nagaland and more Nagas living in other Naga areas than in Nagaland. Let us love one another as brothers and sisters.
• Not really, half-hearted support with no commitment, many nagas are blind about other areas Nagas.
• It a shame that Nagas of Nagaland only think about themselves and they would like to believe that they are the only true Nagas. They forget that the present Nagaland state came through the 16 point agreement, which inspite of agreeing to the integration of all Naga areas has only forgotten all the Nagas. Nagas of Nagaland should know that they are enjoying because of the sacrifices of all Nagas, not just those in Nagaland state. After statehood, instead of reaching out to all Nagas and trying to help each other, they started propagating real nagas and kaccha nagas. Is this not the reason why the ENPO today is demanding for Frontier Nagaland. Even today, Nagas of Nagaland are progressing because of sacrifices of Nagas from other Naga areas. But Nagaland Nagas dont care at all for other Nagas.
• As i see that Nagas from other areas are often called as kacha Nagas as if we are not Nagas. We fight for the same cause for the whole Nagas in general.
• People are damn selfish and echoism. Except some.
• Cos' of Nagas have had own rights for freedom. Why nagas no freedom still?
• I feel we are mostly selfish.
• Yes, should be!... As a human race we should live as one if we wanted, No one on earth has the right to separate us if we are emotionally, culturally, spiritually & politically united. But looking at the present trends n scenarios it seem the spirit is fading gradually away. It is because of the differences in political conscience among the undergrounds n overgrounds which is very unfortunate. Now that most of the Nagas are already drowning in the dept of wealth, luxuries n living standards we enjoy which we get from the GoI. We no longer wants to extends support to those nagas outside Nagaland as many people thinks, getting involved or interfered with the outsiders in the spirit of nagaism is a greater thread, responsibilities n burdens for us when we have lots of inner problems unsolved so, it is best to strive all rounder developments for a smaller Nagaland with a smaller responsibility n burden. Which I feel is not right on our parts. Because the status, recognition, and attention we get today from the center n around the world is the wages/outcome of the collective efforts by all the Nagas across n beyond borders. We are forgetting that Nagas outside Nagaland are ardently contributing for the Nagas cause but they suffer more because of oppression from both sides, under GoI n their respective states as a minority out their. They (civilian) are working hard for the Naga cause but they don't earned or get paid, exemption some of the UG'S (extortionists). We must not forget that Nagaland is a state which was founded with the bloods of scores of Nagas bloods both from inside n outside. Therefore we may not find peace excluding them n abandoning the there. Great responsibilities comes when there is a great power so we should not be afraid of bigger responsibility, its the same thing. Kuknalim!
• Naga civil societies never reached to other naga areas.
• im least interested.. call me selfish but im satisfied with NAGALAND. i need to develop nagaland if i have to help other nagas. and those nagas outside nagaland, they also have their elected representatives and getting their share of funds for development..what the hell should we invest our developmental funds for them.. sorry god help those who help themselves.
• Nope, not at all in my opinion. First, things are very unsettled in the homeland. So, there is no time to think about Nagas in other places. In my viewpoint, if I see the State taking rather too keen in Nagas in other places, I would ask the question; why don't we clear our backyard first? Besides, it's an ease to discover that the State do not involve much in other places. There is a huge chance for the State to restrain and annihilate peace that is left in other places. Can you imagine Nagas do not like those localities inhabited by other fellow Naga people? It’s better left alone.
• When it comes to the level of the leaders of various political/civil organizations they have the concern. But I felt more awareness is needed among the common mass. Things are changing lately though.
• Not doing much for them. if we had concerns for them, we should be able to make all possible ways to keep ourselves connected with each others
• not concerned others Nagas areas who resides in Nagaland
• Its an open fact that there is a distinct differences in our thinkings, habits and cultures though we say we are of the same genomes. Yes, we are poles apart and the best example can be gauge from the diversities in DU Campus-Delhi.
• Because Nagas in Nagaland takes other nagas as kacha naga.
• No, Nagas of Nagaland State are crazy after govt job quota. So accommodation for fellow Nagas in any other spheres is a serious question to ponder about it.
• Nagas of nagaland are satisfied with the opportunity they have here. They rather not interfere with other business. If they care then they would have shouldered the responsibilities together.
• Nagaland nagas are too narrow minded, they enjoy the fruits of outside nagas only. Congrats present visionary leaders.
• Nagalang nagas never concern other nagas
• no, just because....leaders of the state are only concern about themselves....nothing else!
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• Nagas should be creative enough to rise above our divisions and to overcome the imposed boundaries that divide our people. When our forefathers talked about Nagaland, they did not mean the present Nagaland state, but by Nagaland they meant the ancestral homeland of the Naga people. Likewise even the NNC, when they said Nagaland, they meant all the Naga areas. Nagas should not be confused by the policy of divide and rule.
• Eastern nagas, Southern nagas, this & that nagas, its confusing!
• It is an irony. Nagas are caught in this boundary trap. Its the classic colonial policy to divide the people under different boundaries so that it is easier to control them. Unfortunately, not many people in the world know about the Naga people and how they have suffered. If only the Naga people took it upon themselves to really educate who they are and to to stop being bogged down by all these tribe issue. Nagas need to overcome their identity crisis because their identity is not shape by the state boundaries. Nagas were Nagas before Nagaland state came into existence.
• I think the factional politics has created lot of difficulties for Nagas from all Naga areas to relate respectfully. Nagas keep putting each other in boxes. For instance Nagas in Manipur are usually branded as IM, Nagas from Burma side as usually branded as K, Angamis as NNC and so on and so forth. These classification among the Nagas has only brought about more division. Factional politics has really affected the Nagas more than we choose to admit. Factional politics is not just about factions, but it clearly was propagated along state boundary lines and this is one of the reasons why Nagas from the different Naga areas start suspecting and distrusting each other. The leaders of the different factions please understand why Nagas want unity and reconciliation. It is not just for the factions to be united, but it will also pave the way for Nagas from all walks of life from all Naga areas to be equally concerned for each other.
• No matter wherever we live, Nagas are nagas and so having concerned for one another comes naturally by instinct but I don’t think most benign nagas of Nagaland show that much concern to their fellow nagas in other naga areas perhaps for being blissfully ignored or by simply overlooking them for being too busy with our own lives. But one thing I find my fellow nagas within and without at large uniqueness is we are freedom-loving people whereas our democratic way of life show how the nagas are our own masters and the maker of our destiny who enjoyed good rapport with all our neighbors from time immemorial. Then came along, the colonial empire with her colonial evil designs began to have drawn the artificial boundaries right through the middle of the courtyard of a domain of a Naga family on the pretext of administrative convenience by senselessly dispersing the siblings of the entire family of nagas in all directions. Ever since then the scattered siblings started a long yearning for family reunion, but it is now big brother (GoI) working in cahoots with others stand in the way of the sibling reunion but they ought to know the futility of vanquishing the birthrights of nagas which is a universal right besides the constitutional special right of Article 371 (A). paradoxically, on the other hand, the real fruits of overall development is yet to be tasted by the grassroots nagas of Nagaland, let alone the nagas living side by side along the artificial demarcation, whereas the economic prosperity of india is far from trickling down….(sms text missing). Meantime, as we the Nagas at large strive for greater and worthier cause, no Naga leaders from all walks of life within and without…(sms message incomplete)
