Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): World Environment Day was celebrated across 81 places in Nagaland under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North).
Large scale plantation drives were carried out wherein 16000 saplings were planted. Several other activities including Go Green march, Run for Fun, awareness lectures on global warming, painting competitions and an innovative lecture on modern farming technology.
The Kohima Battalion along with GBs, school and college students, Ex-Servicemen of Assam Rifles and various organizations educated people especially children on environment protection and conservation and participated in tree plantation.
Chieswema Battalion organized tree plantation drives at Chieswema Garrison, Pfutsero, Chizami, Chakabama, Chiephobozou and Zeizou. Troops from Pfutsero and 35 villagers took part in a Go Green march. Lecture on Afforestation was conducted at Cimord Public School, Kezo Town participated by students.
Wokha Battalion carried out plantation drive at Wokha, Bhandari, Doyang, Chukitong and Tseminyu. Run for Fun was organized by Liberno Memorial School. Painting and essay writing competitions on ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ were organized in schools.
Run for Fun was conducted at Kiphire and Pungro town and mega plantation drives were conducted at Pungro, Anutongre, Longmatre and Akhegwo. A lecture on Environment Day stressing tree plantation was also delivered.
Phek battalion conducted events at Phek, Meluri, Avankhu, Ziphu and Akhen and students along with the troops took part in the plantation drive in schools and colleges in Phek town. Students also participated in the Go Green March at Phek and Meluri.
Phek Battalion conducted lecture on ‘Modern Farming Technology’ and distributed hybrid plant seeds at Ziphu and Akhen. The villagers were educated on the modern farming technologies for improvement in the agricultural production. They distributed hybrid seeds of vegetables.
Tuensang Battalion carried out plantation drive in which fruit bearing and ornamental trees were planted. An awareness rally displaying banners and posters spreading awareness among all regarding importance of clean and healthy environment was also organized. An essay writing competition on the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was organized at Tuensang.
Mokokchung Battalion organized afforestation and cleanliness drives at Dessoi, Changki, Tuli and Wakching. Informative lectures were organized at Govt High School Wakching, Lamling Vista Elementary school, Yongkam, Govt Primary School, New Chungtia.
Shamatore Battalion organized an awareness march at Shamatore and Noklak with participation of school students and staffs, locals and Assam Rifles personnel. A painting competition on the theme was organised at St Xavier’s School, Shamatore. Plantation drive was carried out at remote location by students of Straightway Mission School and local villagers of Dan. A hunter’s conclave addressing wildlife conservation and afforestation drive to increase forest cover was conducted at Wakching.
Zunheboto Battalion organized lectures and plantation drives at Govt Higher Secondary School Akuluto, Govt Middle School Tronger and Sangsomong. Jalukie Battalion conducted lecture on Global Warming at Government Middle School, Peren. Students attended lecture and also planted saplings. Similar plantation drives at Tening and Ahthibung in collaboration with Christian School planted saplings.
Dimapur Battalion organized Go Green March at Kashiram Basti and Nihokhu, tree plantation at Khusiabil, Lungigram and Ayomiti village. Medziphema Battalion organized plantation drives at Medziphema, Piphema, Kukidolong and Zubza.
