Chief guest Zhaleo Rio challenges young Nagas to prevent immigration
Shillong, April 16 (MExN): The Angami Students’ Union (ASU), Shillong celebrated its golden jubilee on April 14 with Zhaleo Rio, Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) as the chief guest of the day-long celebration at State Library Hall, Shillong.
“Dignity of Labour is inevitable in order to succeed and prosper in life,” Zhaleo advised the students while challenging that young Nagas must learn the value of sweating it out for sustenance and which, as a result, can arrest immigration of all kinds to a great extent in the long run.
“It is immigration that robs the economy of our local populace,” he remarked, according to a press release. “There is no necessity to compete for government jobs, etc. but rather opt for self employment through dignity of labour.”
The Deputy Speaker emphasized that there is enough room for self employment in Nagaland so long “one is ready to stoop low and sacrifice oneself for a successful life.” He lamented that many Nagas cry over unemployment issue without proper consideration of the options available in the State.
Citing that Nagas outside the State should learn and practice exemplary habits even in Nagaland, Zhaleo pointed out the practice of cleanliness in Shillong, which is still a far-fetched dream in Nagaland. “It is time Nagas change and put such exceptional practices into action, led by people who have the experience of living outside our State,” he opined.
Zhaleo’s entourage included Tokihe Zhimomi, Political Adviser to Deputy Speaker; Miathou Krose, Chairman, NHHDC; Kevirhekho Kehie, renowned social worker and senior party leader, NDPP; and Gohu Vüprü, Founding member, NDPP, the release from Thejangukho Yalietsu, Press Secretary, NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/C informed.
The celebration was also attended by Methanilie Jütakhrie and band as well as executives of ASU, Nagaland led by its president Visako Rino.
At the behest of senior students and public leaders, Zhaleo later visited the site for construction of a Nagaland Rest House, opposite NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, which “arguably” belongs to the Government of Nagaland. The release noted that the site has been lying unattended for years due to opposition from certain quarters.
Zhaleo, who was accompanied by Assistant Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, Shillong, assured to personally intervene for an amicable solution on the issue at the earliest and initiate construction of the said house which is meant to help patients, particularly from Nagaland.
