Kohima, March 26 (MExN): The Angami Students' Union (ASU) on Wednesday expressed its concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
At a time when the whole nation is giving its best to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Nagaland has responded diligently to safeguard its people, it stated. Although the state of Nagaland is not privileged with advanced testing kits and labs, the medical measures being taken by the state government and its agencies, various NGOs and individuals has contributed much to the benefit of the denizens, ASU said, extending appreciation.
Meanwhile, the Union said that it is disheartening to notice that the general public continues to neglect the precautionary measures given. It urged the denizens to cooperate and heed to the government directions to stay indoors which would robustly contribute towards containing the spread of the COVID-19.
ASU also voiced concern for the academic schedule of the students. It advised the students to educate their near and dear ones about the prevailing situation. It also advised them to benefit from the lockdown, considering it as a 'study break' and not lose track of their academic preparation.
Prioritize well being of security and medical teams
ASU highlighted that during times like these, the police personnel and medical teams should be well equipped with all the preventive medical kits. The Union acknowledged their services and urged the government to prioritize the well being of the police personnel and medical teams who are working tirelessly to keep the citizens safe.
Public announcements using PA systems and loud speakers to town, colonies and rural areas in English, Nagamese and local dialects would also facilitate better understanding about the pandemic, ASU opined.
The Union suggested that all paramilitary forces should also be brought under the ambit of the lockdown. The continuous flow of para military forces to rural areas has also raised fears among the villagers as the COVID-19 is easily transmittable, the Union said in its statement.
It further requested the prayer warriors to continue seeking God's grace and mercy during these difficult times.
The ASU appealed to the students and public to refrain from spreading/believing hoax messages during the unrest.
