‘At least one testing lab’: ENCSU demands equipment for COVID -19 hospitals in Eastern Nagaland

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students Union (ENCSU) on May 26 demanded for immediate setting up of necessary equipment at the COVID-19 hospitals across Eastern Nagaland.

Taking note of the number of returnees from outside Nagaland being mostly from Eastern Nagaland, the ENCSU appealed the State Government to look into the matter before the situation escalates “from bad to worse.”

It also urged the government to ensure that the returnees of Eastern districts are sent back only after proper screening and necessary test is conducted.

Stating that it had been of the opinion that “the capital city and commercial hub of Nagaland was for all,” ENCSU expressed disappointment over recent statements to send back returnees to their respective districts. Despite huge number of returnees from Eastern Nagaland, ENCSU said that the Eastern areas do not have enough space to accommodate them all, unlike Dimapur and Kohima, “where all major development are being focused.”

ENCSU stated that, despite limited resources, the District administration in coordination with all the stakeholders from Eastern Nagaland are doing exceptionally well to ensure that all returnees are received to the best.

“Accordingly, if the state Government can provide enough facilities and at least one single testing lab to Eastern District hospitals, then the Eastern returnees are will not bother any organization or residents of Kohima and Dimapur in any manner,” the Union stated.

The ENCSU also appealed to the state Government not to rely to Assam for COVID-19 tests. It may be mentioned that currently, samples from Mon are being sent to Dibrugarh in Assam.

Meanwhile, The ENCSU also expressed concerns over the online classes for students during the lock down in various part of state.

It noted that many students in various part of Eastern Nagaland are facing problems in attending online classes due to poor network connection. The ENCSU appealed to the concerned Department and the state government to ensure good network connectivity in the villages or allow conducting classes in school  or tuition at home in their respective villages.
