Attempt to derail delimitation process tantamount to injustice: Rengma Hoho

Dimapur, June 18 (MExN):  The Rengma Hoho on June 18 wrote to the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission affirming its support for the delimitation exercise in Nagaland. Stating that the exercise intends to rationalize parliamentary seat and the State Assembly seat as per the constitution of India, the Rengma Hoho said that “any attempt to derail the delimitation issue in the state of Nagaland will be devoid of constitutional provision and tantamount to injustice of equality in re-adjustment of Assembly seats in the state of Nagaland.” It mentioned that some districts in the state have been enjoying numerous seats under the “manipulated 1972 delimitation”, depriving some community of assembly seats, Rengma tribe being one of them. “Any talk of the 2001 census being flawed as the reason to pressure the Government of India not to implement the present delimitation exercise in the state is discriminatory and dishonest,” it maintained.  Stressing that “bowing down before irrational pressure and argument will be a defeat of Indian Democracy,” the Rengma Hoho apprised the commission and the Indian government to do the needful in conducting delimitation exercise in the state.
