
Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The valedictory function for the Awareness Campaign on the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) took place at Livingstone Foundation International, Dimapur, on September 9.
Organized by the District Administration of Dimapur in collaboration with Livingstone Foundation Society and Breeze Women Welfare Association (BWWA), the event was held under the theme "Celebrating International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies."
Thungchanbemo Tungoe, CEO of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), attended as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Zakabo Rotokha, highlighted the city’s critical air pollution levels, stating that Dimapur ranks the highest in Nagaland for poor air quality. He stressed the need for collective action, urging everyone to plant more trees and apply the knowledge gained from the campaign to improve air quality.
In his speech, Tungoe emphasized the dangers of air pollution, noting that people breathe unclean air 9 to 10 times a day and that 900,000 children die annually due to polluted air. He urged students to take the issue seriously, advocating for the planting of trees both at school and home. He also encouraged practical steps, such as using bicycles, reusable bags, and conserving electricity.
The programme featured a closing speech by Imlijungla Lemtur, EAC Dimapur, an invocation by Zhimoholi S. Zhimomi, Chaplain at LFI, and a special performance by Ravineizo Rio of LFI. Winners of the inter-school competitions held during the campaign were also announced.
Liniu Achumi (Grade 8) of Charis High Academy secured 1st position in the essay competition, while Tolivi K. Wotsa (Grade 12) of Assembly of God Higher Secondary School won the slogan writing competition. Etoka (Grade 12) of Cornerstone Higher Secondary School took first place in the poster-making competition, and Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, won the Model Exhibition competition.
