Basement Empire, an event management organization, marked its entry in Nagaland on June 4 at The Heritage, Kohima. Created by Imtizulu I Jamir, Basement Empire aims to develop new and unique forms of entertainment for people on a daily basis. The organization was launched by Alemtemshi Jamir, former Chief Secretary of Nagaland.

Basing its events on popular culture in society, Imtizulu highlighted the visions of Basement Empire which hopes to create a space where individuals with different and similar interests are able to integrate. “The things that everyone enjoys, but considers as trivial and unimportant forms popular culture,” pointed out Imtizulu who believes in the idea of assimilation and unity through a common interest such as popular culture. “At Basement Empire, we believe that we can fulfill these needs. We want to take entertainment to the next level in Nagaland,” he added.

Opining that Christians shy away to talk about business, Alemtemshi Jamir stated that there is nothing wrong with business as long as it is ethical. Jamir also critiqued on the absence of economy in Nagaland where secondary sectors have come to a standstill post 1997 and added, “Nagaland has no economy. Period.” Taking inspiration from the newly launched Basement Empire, Jamir affirmed hope on organizations like BE which will break barriers in the Naga society and establish an economy in future.

Basement Empire will be lining up The Pop Culture Summit in December this year which is “meant to promote pop culture in society by bringing together groups of individuals from different areas of trends, issues and interest.” The summit will consist of Cosplay, seminars on environmental and political awareness, athletic programs, gaming tournaments etc.
