Two days after a man was reported washed away in a flash flood, the victim’s body was recovered on June 20. According to the police, the body was retrieved by SDRF and Chümoukedima Police Station personnel, assisted by civilian volunteers, at around 3:00 pm today some 4-5km downstream of the spot where he was reported drowned.
The deceased victim was identified as Tiongtilemba (38 years), who was a resident of Chümoukedima.
He was part of a group of five persons, who got caught in a flash flood, in a stream between Shoxuvi and Pimla on the evening of June 18. They were in a Maruti Gypsy, returning from a fishing trip. The other four survived.
Another drowned
In another incident today, a 65 year-old man of Piphema New was reported drowned. According to a report, the deceased victim was crossing a swollen stream (Dziimha) while on his way to his paddy field. He was washed away by force of the water and his body was recovered about a kilometer down stream.
