DIMAPUR, July 12 (MExN): SC Jamir, the Governor of Goa today exhorted the youths of Nagaland to build the Kingdom of God in their hearts, in the hearts of the people and on Earth.
Interacting with a group of 21 youths from Rengma Baptist Church Dimapur who are in Goa on a study tour and who called on him here at the Raj Bhavan this evening, the Governor reminded them of the prevailing situation in Nagaland pointing out that it was due to the lack of Christian values in the hearts and minds of the people that violence and senseless killings continue.
He exhorted the youths to first build the Kingdom of God in their hearts and endeavour to extend that to the society.
“As Christians we pray everyday to God Almighty to let His Kingdom come, and to let His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven,” Jamir said. “And as Christians, it is incumbent on all of us to build God’s Kingdom on Earth. We should create paradise on Earth in our Christian Naga society.”
Lamenting the lack of peace and harmony in the Naga society today, Jamir questioned why the Naga brethren are killing each other when they are all of the same family as children of God, believing in the same God, praising and praying to the same God.
“We are deviating from the teachings of Christ and we are killing and hating each other,” he said. “We have failed the Lord, we have deviated and we are detached from Christian values. We profess Nagaland is for Christ, but the devil reigns in our society, in our hearts and in our actions. We are unable to fight evil and injustice. We are more in tune with the devil than with Christ.”
Jamir said Nagas should grow and compete with the world and that the youths should have vision, dreams, ambition and determination to translate their visions to reality.
“Peace and tranquility should be restored,” he exhorted and pointed out that the present violent society is not the one bequeathed to the younger Naga generation by their forefathers.
“Why should we Nagas allow a handful of elements who do not care a hoot for the welfare of the future of our people to subjugate the whole society?” Jamir asked. “Why should the younger Naga generation be prevented from flourishing or pursue greater heights in their academic career? Why can't we let our people flourish and prosper in trade and commerce?”
The former Nagaland Chief Minister lamented that Nagas are living in a negative society because there are no Christian values today and that there is no Christian love for each other.
“We no longer feel for each other. There is no brotherhood among the Nagas today. There is no compassion for each other today in our society,” he lamented and urged the youths to choose between peace and violence, between love and hatred and between unity and disunity.
“The Kingdom of God will have to start from the hearts of the people,” Jamir reminded.
