Longleng, September 20 (MExN): Women Safety Awareness Campaign was held at Hukphang and Pongching village on September 19 and 20. The programme was jointly organized by the DTF BBBP in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK).


A DIPR report stated that the resource person, Phungla Phom, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW spoke on various legal rights and acts of women and schemes provided by the Government for the upliftment of women and girl child. She stressed on crime against women such as rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, etc and how it affects the victim, family and society at large.  


Speaking on Child Marriage Act of 2006, she pointed out how child marriage affects family life physically, mentally and financially due to immature behavior of both the couple. She exhorted the mothers to stop child marriage in their family and raise their voice against it in the community.

 
She also spoke on Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA), Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and other schemes provided to the women and urged them to avail the opportunity. She highlighted on the activities of Sakhi One Stop Centre and informed the mothers that MSK is ready to assist and urged them to visit MSK office or call them for any queries.

        
The Chairman of Village Council Pongching asserted that women had greater role and responsibility in the present generation the VCC urged them to learn from the resource person.


Tutinungla Phom, District Coordinator DLCW, Longleng highlighted the activities carried out by the MSK in collaboration with DTF BBBP and Social Welfare Department for the welfare of the Women. She informed that the Agencies have been conducting such awareness program block wise for the upliftment of women and is expected to cover every village under the district.  


During the discussion hour all the mothers informed that their daughters could not become beneficiaries under SSA scheme due to lack of Aadhaar card. It was also reported that Aadhaar centre in Longleng district was not functioning and they have to go to Changtongya under Mokokchung district to enroll their daughters under Aadhaar which is expensive for poor villagers. The MSK also distributed forms for the SSA scheme.
