A two-day long 50 years jubilee celebration of the Youth Ministry of Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima (CBCK) got underway here today at CBCK under the theme “Amaze.”
The celebration started with unveiling of jubilee plaque by CBCK senior pastor Rev. Khrotso Mero.
Tremendous changes have taken place within this 50 years span of time, stated jubilee organizing committee convenor Khriehuzo Lohe.
The Youth Ministry started as a fellowship with only a few people who came to Kohima to pursue higher education. It was in the year 1968 that the Christian Youth Endeavour (CYE) was officially formed, Lohe stated.
He stated that the Youth Ministry of CBCK has become a major department contributing not only in the church, but also representing Chakhesang tribe at various state level programmes.
Weto Losou, secretary Souvenir Committee stated that MV Chakhesang, a man of strong conviction put the CYE in its formal ecclesiological shape in 1968 and he (MV Chakhesang) became the first chairman.
MV Chakhesang is the retired Additional Director General of Police, Nagaland.
Prior to this, the Chakhesang Students’ Fellowship was held at sporadic intervals since 1952. People like Mütühülü, Vetsütsolü, Zapovelü, Punühü and Thüpule played the key role in keeping the fellowship active.
Losou said what initially called the CYE henceforth came to be known as the youth department. However, with the CBCK’s golden jubilee in 2010, the department came to be known as CBCK Youth ministry.
In today’s evening worship service, MV Chakhesang released the 50 year jubilee souvenir while greetings was be shared by Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, senior pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers Hill Kohima and president Kohima Baptist Pastors Fellowship.
Rev. Khrotso Mero spoke on the topic “Marvelous is the God of Ages.”
