Suspension of seven rebel MLAs revoked

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has revoked the suspension of seven rebel MLAs, who had defied party directive at the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The seven MLAs, namely: EE Pangteang, Eshak Konyak, Kejong Chang, BS Nganglang, Toyang Chang, Thongwang Konyak and CL John had voted in favour of the NDPP candidate inviting the ire of the NPF leadership.

At the time, the NPF had tied up with the Congress to prop up KL Chishi, who eventually lost to NDPP’s Tokheho Yepthomi by a close margin.

The MLAs were subsequently suspended from active membership of the party and disqualification proceedings were initiated against them in the Assembly.

“In the greater interest of the party” was cited as the reason for withdrawing the suspension in an ‘Order’ issued by NPF chief, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, on April 1. The NPF did not go public with the announcement. However, senior NPF legislator Imkong L Imchen, when contacted, confirmed the latest development in the party.
