Chenloisho Nokden FC today lifted the champion title of 6th Altrura Open Football Tournament 2024 organized by Altrura Society at Chümoukedima town local ground. Chenloisho Nokden FC defeated Legend FC in the finals through penalty after the match ended with 2 goals draw.
The tournament was organized by Altrura Society at under the theme- Excellence: Our Goal, at Chümoukedima Town Local Ground.
The champions walked away with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with trophy while the runners-up walked away with Rs 60,000 and trophy. Seithekiema Football Coaching Centre came in the third place while Thunder Wolves were placed in the fourth place. They received cash prizes of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
In the individual category, Salangwati from Legend FC emerged as best player, Kikruzelie Wetsa from SFCC was the highest scorer with 8 goals while Khonjang from Nokden FC was adjudged as the Best Keeper.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Nagaland Football Coaches Association president and OSD Sports, Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Roko Angami, emphasized the importance of discipline, commitment, and time management in sports.
He stressed that success in sports demands year-round dedication and not just participation during tournament seasons.
Angami expressed concern over the lack of sincerity among players when it comes to practice, stating that many athletes prefer to skip regular training sessions but still want to participate in events.
Highlighting the growing potential of sports as a lucrative career path, the former professional footballer, pointed out that many individuals prioritize education and focus solely on obtaining certificates and degrees, neglecting the dedication required for sports. He also encouraged parents to that pay the same attention and effort as any other profession.
Angami also noted that the upcoming Dr T Ao Trophy would attract scouts from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), who will be on the lookout for emerging talent. He urged athletes to represent their districts with pride and determination, reminding them that coaches now need to be as qualified as the teams they guide under the new system.
He informed that there will soon be a Dr T Ao Sports Academy at Seithekema, in this regard he encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity and take advantage of the academy’s offerings.
The matches were officiated by Dimapur District Football Referee Association.
A total of 24 teams from all over the state took part in the tournament which began on August 26.
