Chess Coaching Camp begins at Akuvuto

DIMAPUR, JUNE 27 (MExN): A Chess Coaching Camp for Children commenced today at the Afuko Building, Akuvuto hosted by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland in collaboration with the Department of Christian Education Ministry, WSBAK. The camp celebrates the 25 years anniversary of the Sumi Chess Association on August 2025.

The opening ceremony saw the participation of 100 Sunday school children from across WSBAK Churches. Jesse K. Yeptho, Secretary of DoCEM WSBAK, led the welcoming address and offered a prayer to bless the participants. Dr. Inazhe Phuleshe, Advisor of SCAN urged the children to approach chess not merely as a pastime but as a discipline that parallels life's challenges. Drawing from a biblical perspective, he quoted, “What profits a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul.”

Dr. Phuleshe encouraged the young players to strive for mastery in their chosen pursuits, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and dedication. Mughato K. Kiba, General Secretary of SCAN, introduced the chess instructors and SCAN members. Mughaho Awomi, Joint Secretary of AICF, highlighted the educational benefits of chess and formally declared the camp open.

In addition to chess training, the children are participating in morning and evening sessions focused on spiritual enrichment, including Bible study and other spiritual activities. The camp will continue until June 28.
