Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Nagaland State Council during a meeting held through virtual platform on August 4 adopted resolutions to be implemented during the year 2020-21.

On the ‘Look East Policy’ which got escalated in the first tenure of the NDA Government, the house felt that  there is no roadmap being drawn up by either the central government or the state government, nor by any agency. Therefore, the house decided that the CII Nagaland State Council will bring out a concept paper on Act East Policy with actionable points which will be shared with the National Council of CII, the State Government and the Central Government, informed a press note issued by C Merenla, Chairperson, State Council.

The State Council of CII will lay primary emphasis on skill development during the current year with special focus on Start-ups, assimilation of the recent returnees from various parts of the country to strengthen the state economy which will be inclusive. CII would work towards effective implementation of Central schemes on Skill Development on a state-wide scale, it stated.

The members also welcomed the government’s action in constituting State Level Core Group for Economic Affairs headed by Addl Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, which is mandated to bolster the economy of the state and work for revival of economic enterprises adversely affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It urged the state government to unveil the action plans and economic packages at the earliest as promised, to safeguard the entrepreneurs of the state and their employees/dependants.

The meeting also resolved to urge the State Government to announce the Nagaland State Industrial Policy, which has remained under cold storage for many years. It stated that Nagaland is the only state which does not have an Industrial Policy, the absence of which impedes the growth of entrepreneurship and industrial development in the state.

The house decided to conduct a series of workshops, seminars and conferences on virtual platforms on topics of economic relevance with particular reference to Nagaland in the context of changed economic ecosystem brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and consequences following it. “These events will be done by inviting Industry leaders from across the country and in collaboration with the Government of Nagaland,” the release added.
