Dimapur, September 16 (MExN): The ‘Swatchhata Hi Seva (SHS)-Cleanliness is Service’ campaign under the theme ‘Plastic Waste Shramdaan’ for Dimapur District was launched on September 16 by Convenor, Zero Waste Himalaya Nagaland, Thangi Mannen.
Delivering the keynote address at the launching programme held at DC’s conference hall Dimapur, Thangi Mannen, stated that the SHS, 2019 is the beginning of the process to achieve India's commitment to eliminate all single use plastic in the country by 2022, as announced by the Prime Minister, Narendra Midi.
She said that the campaign would be in three phases. From 11th September to 1st October 2019, which is the first phase, there would be awareness generation period, while the phase II, on 2nd October, there will be mass social work and phase III, from 27th October, would be marked with collection, segregation and transportation for recycling and disposal for which participation of all government departments, NGOs, individuals, institutions etc. would be required.
During her speech, it was also mentioned that all the collected waste from all over the state would be coming to Dimapur for which she informed the Administration and DMC for arrangement of a bailing machine.
Explaining the ill effects of plastic, she requested all to adopt the principle of "My Waste My Responsibility " and to handle own waste through proper segregation and disposal and to bring about lifestyle changes and make conscious efforts to reduce and refuse plastic as much as possible.
The programme was chaired by DC Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol; while the vote of thanks was proposed by Urban Development Officer and Member Secretary, Pangzangkokba.
