LONGLENG, SEPTEMBER 7 (MExN): The District Management Unit under FOCUS: Longleng in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services organized a one-day training for Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), appointed under the project at Veterinary Hospital, Longleng-Changtongya on September 5.

Resource person, Dr Aoyimsen Jamir, Veterinary Surgeon opined that the CAHWs, being the livestock in charge of the villages, can act as a bridge between the livestock farmers and the department.  He added that they will be a good asset for the department at this hour of need as almost every village has reported the outbreak of ASF in piglets, lumpy diseases in cattle and mortality of local chicken.

The main objective of the training was to ensure that at least some basic information and knowledge on veterinary services are made aware to the CAHWs, who can in turn give first aid within the village itself on report of any outbreaks.

The resource person also demonstrated on how to correctly vaccinate livestock. Free medicine and manuals/brochures on ‘Care & Management of Pigs,’ ‘African Swine Fever,’ and a ‘Handbook on Dairy and Poultry Farming’ were also distributed to the participants.
